TOP since 1992
The Traffic Offenders Program
has been operating in the Blacktown/Seven Hills area since 5th March 1992 and
started with the co-operation of the Blacktown and Parramatta Local Courts.
The number of Courts now
participating has increased to forty-seven (47) Local
and District Courts, stretching from Newcastle in the north to Nowra in the
south and as far west as Bathurst.
During the period from 5th March 1992 to 6th
December 2007 over 9,960 persons have completed the Program and
returned to Court. An offender is allowed only one attempt to attend our
Program.
Many of these people have
contacted me since their Court appearance and have made positive comments
concerning the Program.
Without exception, all have indicated that they have benefited from the
Program and many feel that the Traffic Offenders Program should be made
compulsory for all licensed drivers. It has been suggested by
attendees that the Program should be available to anyone wishing to
participate, not only those who are awaiting Court appearances for traffic
offences.
All participants in the Program
are facing the Courts on many varied traffic offences. They are required to
attend eight (8) presentations over seven (7) weeks and are required to submit an
assignment for each presentation.
The content of the assignments is based on specific questions; the answers
for these questions are contained in each presentation. The participants are
able to commence the Program at any time as the presentations rotate in the
Program over forty-nine (49) weeks during the year.
The content for these presentations is drawn
from the experience the presenters have in their specialised field of
employment.
The on-going support of the organisations and
presenters has ensured that the Program continues and I look
forward to an on-going partnership with them.
